Janet Barrett

Janet R. Barrett is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University School of Music. She is a co-author of Sound Ways of Knowing: Music in the Interdisciplinary Curriculum, and Looking In On Music Teaching. She has served as an interdisciplinary curriculum consultant for the American Composers Forum, the Ravinia Festival, and the Arts-Infused Teaching and Learning Institute. She has presented at MENC, AOSA, ISME, and at numerous colleges and universities on teaching music in relation to art, poetry, history, and social studies. She has recently published a study of music teachers’ knowledge of subjects across the curriculum.


Michael Chandler

Michael Chandler is a resident of Dallas and is teaching his ninth year as the classroom music specialist at Parkway Elementary in Lewisville, Texas, where he was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2000. He is completing a Master of Arts degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Orff Schulwerk at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and has also obtained a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. At Parkway Elementary, he directs the Parkway “Panther” Choir and the fifth grade instrumental and movement ensemble, Schulspiel. Mr. Chandler is currently serving on the National Board of Trustees for the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA).  He teaches as part of the faculty for the Orff Schulwerk teacher training courses at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.


Cecile Johnson

Cecile Johnson is the K-5 music specialist at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Denton, Texas. A nationally recognized specialist in the Kodály approach to music education, she is also the founder and director of the school’s All-Star Choir which has been designated a Texas TMEA Elementary Honor Choir.  Mrs. Johnson currently serves on the national board of the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) and teaches pedagogy and conducting  courses in the UNT/Plano ISD Kodály teacher-training program  in addition to folk music and musicianship courses for the Greater Houston Kodály Teacher Institute.
