Gallery 121, Leu Art Building

Meet the Artist Reception: July 15, 2008
from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM

This exclusive Tennessee Arts Academy exhibition features the works of Charles Brindley who lives and maintains a studio in Adairville, Kentucky, a small community 35 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. Brindley's drawings and paintings depict a variety of symbol-laden subjects, including giant deciduous trees, panoramic landscapes, prehistoric ruins, rock formations, architecture and still lifes. Brindley has had three touring exhibitions of his work, Ordered Prospects, Salient Features, and Points of Reference. A fourth touring exhibition, titled Trace and Transformation began in 2005 and traveled to venues nationally. His work was recently on exhibition at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville.

The Tennessee Arts Academy is proud to sponsor this latest exhibition in Gallery 121 in the Leu Art Building, July 1 - July 31 from 8:00-4:00 PM Monday through Friday. A special TAA Meet the Artist reception will be held in the gallery on July 15th from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM.

Visitors’ Day
Wednesday is the official Visitors' Day when arts education supporters from the Tennessee Department of Education, arts agencies, colleges and universities, and local school systems are invited to be guests of the Academy. Some visitors may wish to participate in the classes, and all are invited to sit in on all of the day's activities

Academy Banquet
On Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., participants gather for the Academy Banquet. This night is designed to honor and reward the hard work and artistic talents of all of the Academy participants. The banquet includes an elegant full course dinner. Afterwards, awards are presented to both state and nationally recognized individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the arts. This year's Distinguished Service Award is being presented to Henry Krieger, the Grammy award winning composer of Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid and Side Show. The night concludes with a stellar performance by Broadway stars Joe and Elizabeth Mahowald.

Finale
The Academy activities conclude with the Academy Luncheon in Neely Hall at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. This event brings together the diverse experiences of the Academy week and reinforces the importance of arts education in classrooms across America. Each year at this event the Academy honors one Tennessee educator for their achievements in the arts. Our honoree for this year is Jeanette Crosswhite, the Director of Arts Education for the Tennessee Department of Education. During the luncheon, the Academy Chorale, composed of Academy participants, is featured in performance. This year's Chorale is conducted by Kevin Fenton. As the Academy ends its yearly session, the message that is sent to all participants clearly inspires and challenges them to live their calling to the fullest.
